Coexistence of LTE and WLAN in Unlicensed Bands: Full-Duplex Spectrum Sensing

چکیده
Problem of opportunistic use of the unlicensed 5GHz band for LTE carrier aggregation (LTE unlicensed) is studied from the point-of-view of cognitive full-duplex transceivers. In this paper, an initial study of the impact of selfinterference on the performance of cyclostationary spectrum sensing algorithm is given, in case where a full-duplex transceiver tries opportunistically use parts of the band used by a WLAN signal. Effective sensing while transmitting is natively possible, because WLAN and LTE signals have different cyclic properties. The evaluation of the impact focuses on extensive system simulations and simulation analysis. It is concluded that the selfinterference can indeed interfere with the cyclostationary spectrum sensing. However, the effect can be lowered by lowering the bandwidth of the aggregated signal and instead using higher spectral density for the lower bandwidth signal. Due to the fast increase of mobile traffic, most mobile network operators face the congestion issue in licensed spectrum bands. Several telecommunication vendors and operators propose to expand LTE service to the unlicensed spectrum bands to relieve the traffic congestion. However, LTE in unlicensed spectrum may interfere with Wi-Fi communications in the same bands and cause significant decreas...

The use of unlicensed spectrum for future LTE systems raises concerns about its impact on co-located Wi-Fi networks. As specifications are being developed, simulation has been widely employed for assessing the performance of coexistence mechanisms for LTE on unlicensed bands. We report herein on extensions to a popular network simulator, known as ns-3, to model such coexistence. To our knowledg...
